With the Mayoral position declared I thought I should drop everyone a line with a BIG thank you!
In the past few days a lot of people have congratulated me on running a good campaign – of doing everything I could to win this election. I appreciate that. But what they’re really saying is that I had the best band of volunteers – because most of them had never actually met me… they met you!
They talked to you at the booths when you handed out ‘How to Vote’ cards; they listened to what you said, and they saw how you treated them with respect, courtesy and patience. And they gave me credit for that. Sure second place is not a win but WOW!
I can’t begin to tell you how proud that makes me feel, how much I appreciate everything you’ve done for me. On Saturday there were about 300 volunteers, friends of mine, friends of their friends, people who believed in me, people I’d come across over the years who just wanted to help – all of them manning booths across the Sunshine Coast for me!
If there’s one thing I’ve learnt during these past few weeks, it’s the power of volunteers – the difference they make to a campaign. I don’t know the words to express my thanks. I’ll never forget your support and the efforts you went to on my behalf. ‘Thank you’ seems inadequate, but that’s all I can say. I hope you know how much it meant to me.
